The Ardèche, a paradise for cyclists
The Ardèche boasts superb cycle and mountain bike routes, with hundreds of kilometres of winding roads meandering along the twisting contours of this dramatic region. These routes encompass challenging climbs up into the heart of this beautiful, unspoilt landscape. In the spring the Ardèche is home to the Ardèchoise, a highly regarded cycling race with some 14,000 competitors: the largest cycling tour in Europe. Close to the action, and along the race route, are plenty of campsites, ideal whether you are travelling with a tent, campervan or caravan or if you prefer the comfort of a mobile home or a chalet. Mountain biking through the Ardeche gorges
The undulating terrain of the Ardèche is perfect for mountain biking of all levels and abilities. Mountain bike trails criss-cross the varied landscapes and local tourist offices will advise and offer maps. What's more, campsites will be able to give you tips on the best local trails. The Grande Traversée de l'Ardèche (GTA) is 315 kilometres and descends 5,500 metres, a real challenge for the serious cyclist. Some campsites specialise in welcoming cyclists and their bikes - look for the icon "Accueil Vélo".
