I visited this beautiful site on a PGL school trip in 1991 and had always wanted to return. The location is beautiful and the site lives up to its name under the night sky. New owners Nathalie and Christophe were very welcoming, helpful and friendly, offering local recommendations and information.
An upgrade of the electrical connection points, perhaps.
Accommodation review
We had a large pitch, which was flat and secluded under the trees. It was late on in a very dry season so we were effectively pitching on sand, but this was not a problem. Unfortunately our power cable was incompatible with the power point, but we didn’t realise until after we had pitched the tent. Other pitches had the compatible connections but we decided not to bother trying to move as we were only there for two nights.
The only real negative was the wasps.

The campsite is in a peaceful location full of wildlife with easy access to walks and a stunning viewpoint across the gorge. The hosts were really helpful and the facilities were great, including the games and on site restaurant. The steep walk down to the river was worth it for a nice morning or evening swim and we enjoyed seeing lots of nature too during our stay. Easy access to nearby sites such as the caves and also canoeing on the Ardeche.

Lovely peaceful stay among the green oak woods - views of the gorge . Friendly owners . Large pitches for Motorhomes. Snack bar providing simple meals .
Great for hikers - walk to gorge down steep sides of the gorge . Expensive .

Deze mooie camping is gelegen in het hart van het natuurreservaat van de Ardèche. Wij hebben nog nooit zoveel dieren op en rondom de camping gehoord en gezien. Vlinders in allerlei kleuren fladderden zelfs in de voortent. De rivier is geweldig. Je kunt kiezen uit twee wandelingen naar de rivier. De ene is ongeveer twee kilometer en is behoorlijk steil. In ongeveer 25 minuten ben je bij de rivier. De andere wandeling is ongeveer 4 tot 5 km en binnen een klein uurtje ben je dan bij de rivier. De wandeling erheen door een sprookjesachtig bos is geweldig.
Wij hebben geen verbeterpunten. Behalve dan dat onze vakantie in dit paradijs veel te kort was. Nathalie en Christophe zijn ontzetten aardige campingeigenaars. Ze zijn ontzettend gastvrij en we hebben veel met ze gelachen. We missen ze zelfs een beetje nu. Op de laatste avond tijdens het heerlijke etentje dat Christophe bereid had, kregen we nog gratis rosé.
Accommodation review
De campingplaats was heel groot en schaduwrijk. Vanaf ons plekje konden we mooi alle vogels zien, gaaien, mussen, roodstaarten, appelvinken, merels, lijsters etc. We hebben zelfs de jongen van een roodstaart uit mogen zien vliegen. Ieder dag kwam dezelfde mus bij ons kruimels brood eten en uit een bakje water drinken. We konden ook zien hoe hij zijn jongen voerden.
Wij kunnen niets verzinnen. Als je een natuurliefhebber bent, van dieren, wandelen en rust houdt is dit dé plek om naartoe te gaan. Op en rondom de camping is voldoende te beleven. Maar ook in de omgeving valt er genoeg te doen, kanoën door de Ardèche, grotten, mooie dorpjes zoals Labeaume, Balazuc en Vogüé.

Perfect little campsite ably run by Natalie and Christophe. Lovely setting in amongst the shady pines which was perfect for us being in a tent. Private grounds in the national park and a short but let’s not pretend, steep drop down to the gorge for a swim on what felt like a private beach. It’s a great place, nice bar/restaurant/seating area to relax in after your day out on the river it beautiful surroundings. Charming village of La Bastide du Virac on your doorstep too. If you want a laid back slice of camping heaven, this is the place… Thanks for a wonderful welcome and stay.

L’accueil, l'emplacement, le site..et les superbes salles d’eau !
J’aurais acheté l’ensemble de nos repas s’il y avait eu un petit peu plus d’offres pour le rayon épicerie, afin de profiter à max du lieu sans reprendre la voiture pour faire les courses... mais je pourrais m'organiser autrement la prochaine fois !
